Diastar Percussive Oriental Back Massage Mallet feature wooden handle that is 4" long and 5/8" thick. There is a rubber ball on the end of a 7" coil spring shaft. Overall length is a little over a foot, 12 1/2". Used alone, or in pairs, these are great for pounding away stress and soreness from tight muscles. The springy shafts make for a very lively massage action. These are particularly effective for self massage of the neck and shoulders. Percussive massage is traditional across the Orient, as well as in Finland and Russia, where it is a part of their traditional sauna. Using mallets in massage can be very relaxing due to the rythmic nature of the treatment. It is also great for improving circulation.
